Description
Neutrog Gyganic Fruit & Citrus Fertiliser 500g – For Banana Plants
Feed your bananas for strong growth and delicious home-grown fruit! 🍌
Bananas are hungry plants!
Those enormous tropical leaves, vigorous growth and developing bunches of fruit all require a good supply of nutrients.
And while bananas love sunshine and water, they also need regular feeding to reach their full potential.
Neutrog Gyganic for Veggies, Fruit & Citrus is an Australian-made, organic-based fertiliser developed to support productive fruiting plants.
With its nutrient-rich formulation, high potassium content, organic matter and beneficial soil biology, it’s a great choice for backyard banana growers.
In fact, Neutrog specifically includes bananas among the tropical fruit crops suitable for Gyganic.
Why is Gyganic good for banana plants?
Bananas are particularly demanding when it comes to nutrition.
They require nitrogen for vigorous leaf growth, phosphorus for root development and energy transfer, and plenty of potassium to support overall plant health and fruit development.
Gyganic provides these three essential nutrients in a formulation that is particularly well suited to fruiting plants.
Benefits for banana growers
- High in potassium: Supports healthy banana growth and fruit development.
- Contains nitrogen: Helps support vigorous green leaf growth.
- Provides phosphorus: Important for root development and plant energy processes.
- Organic-based formula: Combines organic materials with additional mineral nutrients.
- Slow-release nutrition: Provides a gradual supply of nutrients as the fertiliser breaks down.
- Supports soil biology: Contains organic carbon and biologically active ingredients.
- Easy-to-apply pellets: Simply spread around the root zone and water in.
- Suitable for container-grown bananas: A practical fertiliser option for plants growing in large woven planter bags.
NPK 7:4:9 – A useful balance for fruiting bananas
One of Gyganic’s main advantages is its nutrient balance.
| Nutrient | Content | Why bananas need it |
|---|---|---|
| Nitrogen (N) | 7.1% | Supports vigorous leaves and vegetative growth |
| Phosphorus (P) | 3.8% | Supports root development and energy transfer |
| Potassium (K) | 9.2% | Important for plant water regulation and fruit development |
| Calcium | 3.1% | Supports cell structure and plant growth |
| Magnesium | 0.5% | Essential for chlorophyll production |
| Sulphur | 8.65% | Important for proteins and plant metabolism |
| Iron | 0.31% | Supports chlorophyll formation and plant health |
Gyganic also contains zinc, copper, manganese, molybdenum, boron and other beneficial components.
The relatively high potassium content is especially useful for banana plants, which require substantial amounts of this nutrient as they grow and produce fruit.
Organic goodness with an added nutrient boost
Gyganic isn’t simply a conventional chemical fertiliser.
Its organic base includes composted materials such as manure, humates and rock phosphate, combined with added mineral nutrients.
This combination provides the benefits of organic matter alongside a more concentrated nutrient supply.
The formulation also incorporates Neutrog’s biological approach to fertiliser production, helping support the soil environment around your banana roots.
Important: Gyganic is organic-based, not a wholly organic fertiliser. It includes added mineral fertiliser ingredients.
High in organic carbon
Gyganic contains approximately 20% organic carbon.
Organic carbon is an important component of healthy soil and provides a resource for soil biological activity.
The formulation also contains approximately 1.5% humic acid, which can contribute to nutrient interactions within the soil.
This makes Gyganic a useful addition to a well-managed banana-growing system that includes quality soil or potting mix, regular watering and suitable organic matter.
Perfect for established banana plants
Once your banana plant has established and is producing healthy new leaves, regular feeding becomes increasingly important.
Bananas can grow rapidly during warm weather, particularly in subtropical and tropical climates.
Gyganic can be applied around the root zone to provide additional nutrition during the growing season.
It’s particularly useful for:
- Established backyard banana plants
- Banana clumps producing vigorous new growth
- Container-grown banana plants
- Bananas approaching fruiting maturity
- Fruiting plants requiring regular nutrient support
For newly planted banana suckers, use a fertiliser appropriate to their stage of establishment and avoid placing concentrated fertiliser directly against young roots or the corm.
How to apply Gyganic to banana plants
Neutrog provides the following general directions for established fruiting plants.
Step 1 – Wait for active growth
Apply Gyganic after signs of new season growth appear.
Step 2 – Measure the fertiliser
Start with approximately 100g per established fruiting plant.
For larger, established plants, the manufacturer allows the quantity to be increased according to plant size, up to a maximum of 500g per application.
Step 3 – Spread around the root zone
Distribute the pellets evenly around the soil beneath the plant’s leaf canopy.
Keep the fertiliser at least 10-20cm away from the base of the plant, avoiding direct contact with the pseudostem, foliage or flowers.
Step 4 – Water thoroughly
Water the fertiliser into the soil after application.
This helps moisture reach the pellets and supports nutrient release.
Step 5 – Repeat during the growing season
For established fruiting plants, Neutrog recommends repeating applications approximately every 8–10 weeks during active growth.
Adjust the quantity according to plant size, soil fertility and the manufacturer’s current directions.
Avoid over-fertilising, especially when combining Gyganic with other fertilisers.
You can look at these manufacturer’s documents below.
Can I use Gyganic in my banana growing bags?
Yes! Gyganic can be used with banana plants growing in large containers.
Our Banana Growing Bags are ideal for establishing and growing bananas where permanent garden planting isn’t practical.
Because nutrients can accumulate in container growing media, it’s important to avoid applying too much fertiliser at once.
For container-grown bananas, use a conservative quantity appropriate to the plant and container size, and follow the manufacturer’s directions.
Spread the pellets evenly over the potting mix, keeping them away from the pseudostem, then water thoroughly.
Make sure the growing bag drains freely.
Does Gyganic replace Seasol Trilogy 631?
These two products serve different purposes.
Gyganic is primarily a fertiliser. It supplies substantial amounts of nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium and other nutrients needed for plant growth.
Seasol Trilogy 631 is primarily a plant and soil tonic, combining seaweed, fish extract and humate to support root development, soil activity and plant resilience.
They can be useful complementary products within a well-managed banana-growing program.
However, avoid unnecessary overlapping applications and always follow the manufacturer’s instructions for each product.
