What’s included in your Banana Growing Combo Kit?
2 × 100 Litre Green Woven Banana Growing Bags
Give your banana plants plenty of space to grow!
These heavy-duty green woven planter bags provide approximately 100 litres of growing capacity each, making them a practical option for growing established banana plants in containers.
Features include:
- Approximately 100-litre growing capacity per bag
- Strong woven polyethylene construction
- UV-stabilised material for outdoor use
- Reinforced handles for easier handling
- Drainage holes to help prevent waterlogging
- Flexible, reusable design
- Supplied flat for convenient storage
The generous capacity provides room for root development while allowing you to grow bananas without committing to permanent in-ground planting.
Please note: A 100-litre growing bag can support substantial banana growth, but final plant size and fruiting performance will depend on the variety, growing conditions, nutrition and available root space.
1 × POWER 50/50 Coir Growing Blend – 4.5kg Block
Bananas love moisture, but they don’t like sitting in waterlogged soil!
Our POWER 50/50 Coir Growing Blend combines:
- 50% fine coconut coir pith – helps retain moisture
- 50% coconut husk chips – helps maintain air spaces and drainage
Each compressed 4.5kg block expands to approximately 60 litres when hydrated.
It’s a useful ingredient for creating a moisture-retentive, well-aerated potting mix for your banana plants.
Growing tip: Blend the hydrated coir with a quality premium potting mix and other suitable ingredients rather than using it as the sole growing medium.
One block provides approximately 30 litres of hydrated coir per growing bag when divided equally between the two bags.
5 × 140mm White Plastic Plant Labels
Growing more than one banana variety?
Keep your plants clearly identified with these practical white plastic plant labels.
- Approximately 135mm overall length
- 100mm writing face length
- 25mm wide
- Pointed stake for easy insertion into potting mix
- Ideal for recording banana varieties, planting dates and growing information
Perfect for identifying different banana varieties and keeping track of your plants as they grow.
For longer-lasting identification, use a suitable UV-resistant nursery marker or garden label pencil.
1 × Seasol Trilogy 631 Plant & Soil Tonic – 1 Litre
Give your banana plants additional support during establishment and active growth.
Seasol Trilogy 631 combines three popular plant and soil tonic ingredients:
- 60% Seasol – liquid seaweed extract
- 30% PowerFish – liquid fish extract
- 10% Organic Humate – liquid humate extract
This Australian-made formulation helps support root development, soil biological activity and plant resilience.
It’s particularly useful when transplanting banana plants into their new 100-litre growing bags.
Always dilute and apply according to the manufacturer’s directions.
1 × Neutrog Gyganic Fruit & Citrus Fertiliser – 500g
Bananas are hungry plants!
To produce their large tropical leaves, strong stems and developing bunches of fruit, they need a consistent supply of nutrients.
Neutrog Gyganic for Veggies, Fruit & Citrus is an Australian-made, organic-based pellet fertiliser suitable for banana plants.
Its nutrient formulation includes:
- Nitrogen – supports vigorous green growth
- Phosphorus – supports root development and plant energy processes
- Potassium – particularly important for healthy banana growth and fruit development
- Calcium, magnesium, sulphur and trace elements
- Organic carbon and humic compounds
With its relatively high potassium content, Gyganic is a useful fertiliser for growing and fruiting banana plants.
Apply according to the manufacturer’s directions, taking care not to overfertilise container-grown plants.
Why grow bananas in 100-litre woven bags?
Growing bananas in large containers offers several advantages, particularly when garden space is limited.
More flexibility in your garden
You can choose where to position your banana plants without needing to permanently plant them in the ground.
Select a sunny, sheltered position with room for the leaves to spread.
Remember that a filled 100-litre bag can become extremely heavy, so it’s best to position it before filling.
Room for root development
Bananas develop extensive root systems and benefit from generous growing space.
A 100-litre bag provides substantially more room than a small nursery pot, helping support the development of an established plant.
Better control over growing conditions
Growing in containers allows you to prepare a suitable growing medium and manage watering and fertilising more closely.
Great for growing different varieties
Want to try Dwarf Cavendish, Lady Finger or another banana variety?
With two 100-litre growing bags, you can grow different plants and compare how they perform in your garden.
Compact and dwarf varieties are generally better suited to container growing than very large banana varieties.
How to use your Banana Growing Combo Kit
Step 1 – Choose a suitable position
Bananas prefer a warm, sunny location protected from strong winds.
Choose a position that receives plenty of sunlight and allows enough room for the plant’s large leaves.
Place the empty woven growing bags in their intended positions before filling.
Step 2 – Prepare your growing medium
Hydrate the POWER 50/50 coir block according to its instructions.
Once expanded, blend it with a premium potting mix suitable for large containers.
For example, a practical starting blend is:
- 45% premium potting mix
- 30% hydrated POWER 50/50 coir
- 15% mature compost
- 10% perlite
Adjust the blend according to your growing conditions, drainage and watering habits.
Important: The included coir is only one ingredient. Additional potting mix, compost and perlite are not included in this kit.
Step 3 – Fill your 100-litre bags
Fill each woven bag with your prepared growing medium, leaving a little space at the top for watering.
Make sure the drainage holes remain unobstructed.
Step 4 – Plant your bananas
Carefully remove each established banana plant from its existing container and position it at an appropriate planting depth.
Backfill with growing medium, gently firm around the root ball and water thoroughly.
Avoid burying the growing point or planting too deeply.
Step 5 – Label your plants
Use the included white plant labels to record banana varieties, planting dates or other useful information.
Step 6 – Support establishment
Seasol Trilogy 631 can be used as part of your transplanting and establishment routine.
Dilute according to the manufacturer’s instructions and apply as directed.
Step 7 – Feed your growing bananas
Once your banana plants are established and actively growing, provide appropriate nutrition.
Neutrog Gyganic supplies nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium and other important nutrients.
Follow the manufacturer’s application instructions and avoid placing concentrated fertiliser directly against the pseudostem.
Step 8 – Water and monitor growth
Bananas require consistent moisture, particularly during warm weather.
Water thoroughly when needed, but allow excess water to drain freely.
Check soil moisture regularly, as large banana leaves can use substantial amounts of water during active growth.
Perfect for backyard banana growers
Our Banana Growing Combo Kit is particularly useful for:
- Growing two banana plants in large containers
- Establishing advanced banana suckers
- Growing compact and dwarf banana varieties
- Backyard gardeners with limited planting space
- Gardeners wanting greater control over their growing medium
- Banana enthusiasts growing several different varieties
Why choose our Banana Growing Combo Kit?
Instead of purchasing your growing supplies separately, this kit brings together products that complement each other.
You receive two generous 100-litre growing bags, coir to improve your potting mix, Seasol Trilogy 631 to support establishment, Gyganic fertiliser for ongoing nutrition and plant labels to keep everything organised.
It’s a convenient way to get your next banana-growing project underway.
Please note: Banana plants and additional potting mix ingredients are not included. The included coir block alone will not fill both growing bags. Follow all fertiliser and tonic label instructions.
